Academic Success Centers
What You Can Expect from Tutors
- Tutors are carefully screened undergraduate
and graduate students who demonstrate exceptional academic skills as well as an
interest in helping other students.
- Tutors are required to take COUN 230 and
330, one-credit courses in which they develop and demonstrate an
effective tutoring
practice.
- Tutors will not do students’ work for them
or
assume ownership of students’ ideas. You can be confident that you are evaluating
a student’s own work.
- Tutors will not comment negatively to students
about instructors' teaching methods, assignments, personality, or grading policies.
- Tutors are not aware of how assignments
are graded; therefore, they will avoid suggesting a grade or criticizing how an
assignment has been graded.
- Tutors strategically and effectively help
students become more academically successful, but they cannot ensure that every
student produces A-level work.
