Academic Success Centers
How Instructors Can Support Us
- Please promote the Academic Success Centers’
services in your classes without making visits a requirement for the entire class.
While we support your efforts to improve student learning, we have found that students
who are required en masse to make appointments are not
engaged clients. Furthermore,
demand for appointments often exceeds the number of available times, especially
at midterm and end of the semester. We want to keep slots open for students
who initiate and commit to using our services. Please
contact the center director if your entire class is in need of a center’s
services or if you have a specific student(s) whom you think would benefit.
- Offer extra credit for using a center’s services
by requiring students to produce evidence of
participation rather than attendance
alone.
- Learn the details of your students' visits
by checking TutorTrac. On each center's website, you will
find a link and directions for accessing our joint database.
- Encourage struggling students to make standing
weekly appointments with the same tutor.
- Send students who have succeeded in your
classes and expressed an interest in tutoring to us. We rely on your recommendations when we hire tutors.
